47-year-old snowboarder dies at Colorado resort following serious incident

A serious incident at Colorado’s Breckenridge Resort resulted in the death of a 47-year-old male snowboarder on January 2.

Ski Patrol responded to the incident on an intermediate run on Peak 7 before transporting the patient to the Peak 8 First Aid Room. Following additional emergency care and evaluation, the male was declared to be deceased.

Additional details about what happened that led to the man’s death were not released.

“Breckenridge Ski Resort, Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Jon Copeland, vice president and chief operating officer at Breckenridge Ski Resort.

This is the second slopesport death to be reported this week in Colorado, following a Wednesday report of a 69-year-old male ski instructor that died following an incident at Vail Mountain on December 28. These are the only two skier or snowboarder deaths that have been reported so far this winter in the Centennial State.
