2 killed in Colorado Springs motorcycle crashes last month identified

The El Paso County Coroner has identified the motorcyclist who died in a Dec. 30 crash on Interstate 25 near the Woodmen Road exit.

Micah Reese, of Colorado Springs, died in the crash.

Witnesses stated that Reese, 19, was traveling southbound on I-25 at a high rate of speed passing vehicles, according to the Friday news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department. The motorcycle lost control and went down near Woodmen Road. The rider was ejected into the center median and the motorcycle continued southbound and came to rest in the center northbound lane of I-25.

The crash and ensuing investigation closed I-25 for hours.

According to Reece’s obituary, the La Junta native was just three days away from his 20th birthday.

“My son was a wonderful person, a friend to many. He will be missed by all,” father Barrett Reece wrote on Facebook. “Ride in Paradise my boy!”

Dec. 29 motorcycle fatality

A day earlier Colorado Springs police also reported a motorcycle fatality, this time at North Nevada Avenue and East Willamette Avenue. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene of a single motorcycle crash, and transported the rider to a nearby hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office later identified him as 40-year-old Alexander King of Colorado Springs.

King and Reece’s deaths marked the 49th and 50th traffic-related deaths of the year for Colorado Springs according to police.
