At least one person has been arrested following a vehicle crash and the discovery of a large amount of narcotics, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. 

Police said around 9 p.m. Tuesday, detectives within the MROC/50’s Narcotics Street Team were conducting surveillance at a known narcotics location. 

Officers on surveillance spotted one vehicle leaving the area, and initiated a traffic stop.

According to police, the vehicle attempted to flee at a high rate of speed and was later found abandoned following a single-vehicle crash. Law enforcement found the suspect near the crash, and arrested them following a brief foot chase. 

“Detectives observed narcotics evidence in plain view in the abandoned vehicle,” an online blotter entry reads. 

On further investigative efforts, detectives on the scene were able to recover evidence of narcotics distribution from the abandoned suspect vehicle. 

According to police, 6,553 fentanyl pills, 455.59 grams of methamphetamine, 102.28 grams of heroin, 49.64 grams of powder cocaine, 47.14 grams of RX pills, and $1,901 in U.S. currency were found. 

Department spokesperson Ira Cronin said the suspect’s identity will not be released at this time due to the nature of the current investigation. 

“We (CSPD) are likely still investigating the scope of his criminal activity, and releasing his identity would hinder our efforts to successfully and fully investigate this individual,” Cronin said.
