Colorado Springs dog rescued after falling into icy pond
Colorado Springs firefighters helped pull a chilly canine from icy water in Nancy Lewis Park on Tuesday.
The fire department responded to calls about a dog who had wandered onto the frozen lake area of the park, which is located just south of East Fillmore Street on Templeton Gap Road.
Responding firefighters put on ice rescue gear and helped retrieve the dog and bring them to shore safely.
“It’s that time of year we start to see ice rescues. Community members at the park did the right thing by calling 9-1-1 and NOT attempting to get the dog,” the department wrote on it’s social media. “Always wait for first responders and never follow a pet onto the ice. All CSFD firefighters are trained in ice rescues.”
