Top sports stories of 2023 | No. 10: Colorado Rapids fall apart; Smith/Horan star at World Cup

There was some good and some bad for soccer in Colorado in 2023.
Colorado’s Sophia Smith and Lindsey Horan were part of the U.S. National Team that competed in the Women’s World Cup in July. Both players scored goals during the tournament but the team fell to Sweden in the Round of 16.
The Rapids did not fare as well this season. They were the worst team in the MLS Western Conference and fired coach Robin Fraser. New coach Chris Armas was hired in November and the team is beginning to rebuild.
