Child hit by car in northeast Colorado Springs

An elementary school-aged child was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after being hit by a car.

The crash was reported at Austin Bluffs Parkway and Brainard Drive on the northeast side of the city, according to reporting by Gazette news partner KKTV. The intersection is near Explorer Elementary School in Academy District 20.

According to police, the 8-year-old was crossing the street on a scooter when they were struck. Early reports from the scene indicated the driver may have had the sun in their eyes and didn’t see the child, but that remains under investigation.
