San Isabel added to Saint Charles fire pre-evacuation area, blaze grows to 149 acres in Pueblo County
As of 7 p.m. Monday, the entire area of San Isabel has been added to the list of communities issued a pre-evacuation order due the Saint Charles fire near Pueblo.
The Custer County Sheriff’s office announced the inclusion of San Isabel in a Facebook statement on Monday evening.
Other pre-evacuation areas for the fire in Custer County include the neighborhoods of Simonson Meadows, Aspen Acres and Terra J on Highways 165 and 78.
The Saint Charles fire was first reported on Oct. 14 southwest of Pueblo, roughly 1.5 miles northeast of San Isabel.
The fire’s official update page on Facebook warns that the fire has currently burned 149 acres and is expected to “top the ridge,” making flames visible to area residents.
The fire was at 0% containment as of 8 p.m., and 148 personnel are currently assigned to the incident, according to a Facebook post from the Beulah Fire Protection and Ambulance District.
“Conditions could quickly change. You NEED to be PREPARED to leave your home,” the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook Monday afternoon.
The fire is “burning actively” due to dry and breezy conditions overnight as ground and air crews combat the blaze, a coalition of first responder agencies said. Smoke could be visible from Rye, Colorado City, Beulah, Wetmore, Pueblo, Florence, Cañon City and the southern Interstate 25 corridor, officials said.
The 149-acre Saint Charles Fire in Pueblo County is 0% contained as of Monday evening.
