Police have identified the person killed in a shooting in downtown Colorado Springs Saturday night.

Police responded to a shots-fired call around 9:35 p.m. in the 400 block of East Kiowa Street. When they arrived, they found a deceased person in front of a cottage and a dog restrained behind the house, police told Gazette news partner KKTV.

Animal Control officers took custody of the dog.

Police and the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 56-year-old Patrick Hunt, of Colorado Springs.

Hunt’s death was the 26th homicide investigation in the city this year, police said. At this time last year, police had investigated 40 homicides.
