Report of shots fired in Colorado Springs neighborhood investigated

A report of shots fired in a southeast Colorado Springs neighborhood Monday morning is under investigation, according to police.

Police received the call just after 7 a.m. reporting the incident in the 1400 block of Rainier Drive, a residential road just south of the intersection of South Circle Drive and Fountain Boulevard.

Neighbors reported seeing an “unknown person” walk up near a home and begin shooting toward the home before fleeing to a nearby vehicle, police said. Witnesses also said “multiple” cars also then left the area “while continuing to exchange gunfire,” police said.

Officers discovered the home with its front doors open and a peppering of bullet holes outside, as well as shell casings in the area.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the shooting and the residents returned hours later, police said.

Police did not provide suspect information and did not indicate any arrests have been made. No injuries were reported.
