Blues legend, Otis Taylor, receives honorary diploma 57 years after expulsion for long hair
In 1966 two months before his graduation from Manual High School, blues legend Otis Taylor told school administrators he would not comply with school policy mandating short hair for male students, so he was expelled. After a friend noticed Taylor’s photo in a notable grads display, Taylor began to tell people that he had in fact, not graduated, spurring this week’s ceremony.
