How to be fire-smart this spring
Every season is fire season. That is especially true in the Pikes Peak region where many of us live in the fraught Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), and where we’ve just had a dry winter.
Adding to the obvious current conditions, there is also the weight of history to remind us to be fire smart. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Black Forest Fire, which destroyed 486 houses and caused $300 million in damage. Worse, it also claimed the lives of husband and wife Marc Allen and Robin Lauran Herklotz.
