Broncos notebook: Jerry Jeudy limited with ankle injury vs. Ravens
BALTIMORE — Jerry Jeudy didn’t know if he’d play Sunday.
The Broncos wide receiver was questionable heading into the Ravens game, after missing the last two games with an ankle injury he suffered against the Titans in Week 10. But Jeudy, despite not feeling his best, played and gave the Broncos an offensive boost.
“It was day-by-day, to see how I felt on game day,” Jeudy said. “I just did what I can.”
Jeudy was one of the lone bright spots in Denver’s 10-9 loss to the Ravens. He had four receptions for 65 yards and was clearly limited, playing less than 50% of the Broncos’ offensive snaps.
“Our plan with Jerry was just to work him back in and he wasn’t 100%,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said. “But he was willing to go for us and I thought he did some really, really good things for us.”
Jeudy has arguably been the Broncos’ best offensive player this season, totaling 514 yards and three touchdowns, which is the most receiving touchdowns on the team. With five games left, he’s sure to be one of Denver’s main playmakers down the stretch.
And he might have been Sunday if not for his injury, which kept him out of some of the biggest moments of the game.
“It’s very frustrating,” Jeudy said. “The competitive player I am, I always want to be out there on the field and give my best. But under the circumstances, I can’t do what I usually do.”
McManus breaks franchise record
Broncos kicker Brandon McManus set a new franchise record Sunday, making his 38th field goal from 50-plus yards. Ring of Famer Jason Elam was the previous record-holder with 37.
McManus was 3 of 4 against the Ravens, making from 52, 50 and 41, and missing from 63. His miss from 63 came at the end of the game, as the Broncos tried to walk it off with a game-winning field goal. McManus was well short, though. In his career, McManus is 38 of 70 from 50-plus yards and is 6 of 11 this season. He’s 0 of 2 this years from 60-plus.
Sutton leaves with injury
The only Broncos injury from Sunday’s game was wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who left the game late in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. Sutton did not record a catch against the Ravens. He attempted to come back in the game in the third quarter, but was unable to.
“He was trying to work through it and couldn’t come back out,” Hackett said.
The Broncos are already thin at receiver, with Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler on the injured reserve and Jeudy playing with an injury.
