Colorado mountain pass closed, ski area delays opening Saturday

Safety concerns amid high winds and snowfall prompted a partial closure on a highly traveled mountain pass in Colorado and caused a delay opening for the nearby ski area.

Loveland Pass, US Highway 6, was partially closed early Saturday as roads became icy overnight Friday from a strong wintry storm. The closure is between mileposts 222 and 229 as of about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

There is no estimated time of reopening due to extreme weather. Check road condition updates from Colorado Department of Transportation here.

Loveland Ski Area delayed its Saturday opening due to the dangerous conditions from the storm. The ski area said it anticipates running lifts about an hour later than normal times. Check for updates here.
