Denver Mayor Hancock orders downtown city buildings to shut down due to possible protests
Denver city officials and staff received an emergency alert that the City and County of Denver government offices in the downtown area will be closing immediately on Thursday as a “proactive safety measure” related to anticipated pro-Trump protests downtown.
In Washington, D.C., pro-Trump protesters breached the U.S. Capitol, halting the Electoral College vote. At least one person has been shot.
“We are monitoring closely the situation occurring right now at the U.S. Capitol, as well as the demonstration taking place here in Denver,” Mayor Michael Hancock said in a statement. “With the activities around the country and approximately 700 individuals downtown who have gathered at the State Capitol, out of an abundance of caution, I have instructed city agencies to close municipal buildings early. My hope is that this situation will be resolved quickly. Pray for our nation.”
