An apartment complex in northeastern Colorado Springs was evacuated Tuesday morning after a contracting crew hit a gas line during construction, firefighters said.

Colorado Springs fire department rushed to 6450 Sky Ridge Drive shortly before 11:00 a.m. to evacuate several buildings during the gas leak.

Work crews dug into the ground to uncover the gas line in order to clamp the line shut. Residents are allowed to return to their apartments, firefighter said.
