News from Jean Evans: Lt. Michael Fatiuk is home after spending 18 months in Saigon. The Fatiuks are going to build a new home just east of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hutton in Panoramic Acres, Monument. Mrs. Larry Phillips of Woodmoor Stables underwent surgery the community wishes Scotty a speedy recovery. Chester Porter had surgery on his hip and Lori Porter had major surgery on her back. Both are in Penrose Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Snyder, Butch, Jerry and Spencer returned home from vacationing in Arizona and Nevada. The Aspen in Colorado were like spun gold. Monument Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in Mr. W.W. Carrothers’ pasture. Children had been playing in the area. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Hunting: Turkey, blue grouse, chukar, Little Brown Crane, morning dove, duck, fox, squirrel and rabbit season is the first half of October. Turkey hunting season will begin Oct. 1 and goes to Oct. 13.

Hunter Safety Laws: Hunters must wear a head covering and outer garment of fluorescent blaze orange to be worn above the waist. A hunter safety course is required for all hunters born before Jan. 1, 1949.

Open House: Voters can attend the open house at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Foote at Pioneer Lookout Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Democratic candidates will be available.

Palmer Lake News: Mrs. Joe Quintana spent time in the hospital for tests and small surgery. She is home and doing well. T.J. Girault and Sally Vaughn have closed their cabins for the season.

Woodmoor Chevron: Ernie Wahlborg of Monument has taken over management of Woodmoor Chevron. Ernie grew up east of Monument on the Wahlborg ranch and spent the last several years the Navy. He lives in Palmer Lake with his wife and daughter.

Homecoming at Lewis-Palmer: A bonfire sponsored by the junior class will be held Friday night. The homecoming game will be held on Saturday. The king and queen will be crowned at half-time. The Rangerette pom pon squad will perform at half-time.
