Tennis: Djokovic eases by Dimitrov at Queen’s Club

LONDON • Novak Djokovic eased past second-seeded Grigor Dimitrov at Queen’s Club with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Thursday. Former top-ranked Djokovic, who accepted a wild card into the Wimbledon warmup tournament, had little trouble against the 2014 champion and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Earlier, Nick Kyrgios sent down 32 aces as the Australian followed up his win over Andy Murray by beating seventh-seeded Kyle Edmund 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-3.

• DEFENDING CHAMPION Roger Federer overcame two match points against Benoit Paire to reach the quarters of the Gerry Weber Open with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7) win in Halle, Germany.

Federer extended his grass-court win streak to 18 matches. Federer is four wins away from matching Jimmy Connors’ all-time record of 174 victories on grass.

Federer faces Matthew Ebden of Australia, who upset former champ Philipp Kohlschreiber 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Also Thursday, Borna Coric defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-2. He next faces Andreas Seppi after the Italian beat Florian Mayer 6-2, 6-4.

• WIMBLEDON CHAMPION Garbine Muguruza tried to look on the bright side of her second-round 6-2, 6-4 defeat to unseeded Barbora Strycova in the Birmingham Classic.

“We have a lot of time now to prepare (for Wimbledon). In a way it’s good,” Muguruza said.

Strycova reached the quarterfinals here for a third time and now plays Lesia Tsurenko, the unseeded Ukrainian who overcame sixth-seeded Daria Kasatkina 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Earlier, defending champion Petra Kvitova beat Daria Gavrilova, a troublesome opponent in the past, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

Fourth-seeded Kvitova next plays Julia Goerges, the world No. 13 from Germany, who beat last year’s runner-up, Ashleigh Barty, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Jets’ Anderson: probation in Florida traffic case

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. • New York Jets receiver Robby Anderson will serve six months of probation after a January arrest in Florida where authorities initially said he tried to speed away from police. Broward County court records show Anderson pleaded no contest Wednesday to misdemeanor reckless driving as part of a deal with prosecutors.

NASCAR won’t use new aero package again in ‘18

NASCAR is shelving the aero package used in the All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the rest of the season. The drafting package will not be used again this year as NASCAR mulls changes.
