1 dead in mobile home fire near Colorado Springs Airport

FATAL FIRE

A 67-year-old woman died Thursday in a mobile home fire in the Cimarron Hills area near the Colorado Springs Airport, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.

About 5:20 a.m., Cimarron Hills firefighters went to The Springs, a mobile home community at 1095 Western Drive, the Sheriff’s Office said. After extinguishing the blaze, they found Judith Barton dead inside the home.

The Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Springs Fire Department will investigate the cause of the fire.

Barton owned the home, El Paso County Assessor’s records show.

Neighbors told Gazette news partner KKTV that the blaze spread rapidly.

“I see flames shooting out of the window,” neighbor Max Patterson told KKTV. “I went outside — just to the back of my trailer, keeping a safe distance — and looked at what was going on, and right as I was doing that, the shed actually caught fire as well. The flames had burned behind, through the back of the trailer into the shed.”
