Colorado Springs ministry names new CEO
Geof Morin has been named CEO of Colorado Springs-based Biblica, The International Bible Society, after nearly 11 years with the American Bible Society in Philadelphia.
He comes to Biblica eight months after former CEO Carl Moeller resigned, and the COO job as well as six other headquarters positions were eliminated in a restructuring “due to changed ministry needs and reduced income levels,” say the group’s 2017 financial statements posted on its website. Biblica lost $1.79 million last year as its income fell from $14.8 million in 2016 to $13.4 million last year.
Moeller, who had been with Biblica since 2014, resigned to “pursue consulting and leadership development opportunities,” according to a Biblica news release. He has been interim chief operating officer since February of Save the Storks, a local nonprofit that equips “pregnancy resource centers to more effectively connect with abortion-vulnerable mothers in their communities.” He also runs a consulting business for nonprofits in Colorado Springs and Newport Beach, Calif.
Biblica is sponsor and copyright holder of the 40-year-old New International Version of the Bible, the bestselling English translation with more than 1 billion copies in print. Founded in 1809 as the New York Bible Society, the group moved to the Springs in 1988 and now employs 43 in the U.S. and 140 internationally who help distribute 83 translations of the Bible.
“I am thrilled to join the Biblica team, serving with our national and global partners to bring a waiting world the transforming hope of God’s Word,” Morin said in a news release. He was not available Monday for further comment.
He and his family plan to move to the Springs from the Philadelphia area; he is expected to start his new position Aug. 31. Morin has been senior vice president of ministry mobilization since 2014 for the American Bible Society, a partner of Biblica, and previously was chief communications officer and marketing and communication director. He helped lead major branding and Bible advocacy initiatives and worked in new translation and international ministry partnerships. He also played a key role in the American Bible Society’s 2015 move to Philadelphia from New York and helped lead creation of a forthcoming immersive Bible experience on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall.
Morin also spent a year as marketing director for Geneva Global, a philanthropic consulting company, and nearly nine years as outreach director for Church of the Good Samaritan, both in the Philadelphia area. He began his career as an assistant account executive with advertising giant Saatchi and Saatchi.
Morin is an ordained minister and has a master’s degree in theology and Anglican studies from Yale University. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology from Duke University.
“We are excited to welcome Geof and his leadership background, ranging from church and ministry startups to his extensive knowledge of the Bible agency arena through his work with our partner, the American Bible Society,” said Biblica Chairman Rob Gluskin in a news release.
