Second community yard sale and auction for Hanover Fire Department to be hosted this weekend
After a nearly 43,000-acre fire raged through southern El Paso County a month ago, a local woman is hosting a second community yard sale and auction to raise money to aid the Hanover Fire Department.
“I wanted to do something for the firefighters, they’re all volunteers,” Juanita Beazley, fundraiser organizer, said. “I thought they needed something.”
The first community yard sale made $514.50 for the fire fighters, according to Beazley. But the 12 year resident of the tight-knit community of Hanover thought she could do more.
“We’re all connected (in Hanover),” said Beazley.
She looks forward to an event she says will be less rushed and more organized.
Saturday and Sunday, community members will sell their second-hand belongings. Both days also feature a silent auction with new items offered.
One hundred percent of auction sales will be donated to the volunteer fire department for vehicle repairs. Any money not needed by the Fire Department will be donated to fire victims. Excess items will be offered to fire victims.
Entry to the sale is $2, which will also go to the Fire Department, or a bag of dog or cat food for no-kill shelters.
The benefit will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Cactus Creek Ranch, 18550 Midway Ranch Road. The auction ends at 2pm this Sunday. The event is still looking for vendors.
