Installation of bike lanes to impact traffic in downtown Colorado Springs

The City is installing new bicycle lanes on Pikes Peak Avenue through downtown Colorado Springs, closing lanes of traffic through Friday.

Pikes Peak between Nevada and Cascade avenues will be reduced to one lane in each direction and restriped with protected bike lanes and a five-foot buffer for drivers backing out of diagonal pull-in parking. Pikes Peak between Corona and Nevada Avenue will have the same configuration but without the diagonal parking.

The construction will move traffic between Cascade Avenue and Coronoa Street to one lane on side of the roadway between June 12 and 15. Parking will be restricted.

The changes will “enhance the City’s network of safe connections” for people on foot and bike through the downtown core and to the Legacy Loop trail system, Colorado Springs spokeswoman Kim Melchor said in an email.
