After consecutive weeks at Weidner Field to open the season, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC hit the road for the first time ahead of Saturday’s 3 p.m. match at St. Louis FC.

With a full roster to choose from, Switchbacks coach Steve Trittschuh hopes Saturday’s showing looks more like the Weidner Field opener, a 2-0 win over LA Galaxy II and not last week’s setback against Portland Timbers 2.

“I expect us to come out more like we did against LA,” Trittschuh said in a Switchbacks release. “I thought our pressure wasn’t good enough against Portland last week, so we’re going to come out and press them and we’re going to go for three points in St. Louis.’

The return of Shane Malcolm from international duty and Saeed Robinson from suspension gives Trittschuh more natural options to harass opposing back lines.

Trittschuh expects a hungry opponent, as St. Louis FC enters its home opener with a single point to its name. St. Louis opened the season with a 1-1 draw at Rio Grande and lost 2-1 at San Antonio a week ago. Kyle Greig and Tony Walls have St. Louis’ goals, while Corey Hertzog has a team-best five shots through two games away from Toyota Stadium.

“We’ve got to come in, match their intensity the first 15, 20 minutes and then hopefully the game settles down, we can play our game and get three points,” Trittschuh said.

Saturday’s contest starts a busy week for the Switchbacks.

After Saturday’s game, the team will travel halfway home for a midweek game against the Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo.

The Switchbacks return to Weidner Field for an April 7 game against Rio Grande Valley.

“We have to work hard to win the two away games, so I hope everything will be better for us,” goalkeeper Moise Pouaty said.
