Colorado Springs man arrested in domestic violence, standoff

A 32-year-old Colorado Springs man was arrested after a standoff early Thursday for allegedly firing a shot during a domestic dispute that injured a woman, police said.

William Cunningham, 32, is facing menacing, obstruction of telephone service, third-degree assault and false imprisonment charges.

Police received a call of shots fired about midnight in the 4500 block of Skyland Drive in east Colorado Springs, police tweeted.

“When officers arrived, they found a female who had a nonlife-threatening injury to her lower extremity from a shot fired,” police spokesman Lt. Howard Black said.

The victim’s injury was most likely caused by debris or shrapnel, Black said. Cunningham had fled before police arrived.

Cunningham was tracked to the 500 block of Willow Springs Road in Fountain about 3 a.m. – where he refused to get out of his truck, Black said.

Cunningham surrendered around 6:30 a.m. without incident, said Black.
