The death of 2-year-old Nain Dominguez is being investigated as an accidental drowning, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
The boy was with his family near the Stratmoor Hill Park Trailhead, 1215 Forest Road, not far from Fountain Creek in south Colorado Springs, before he was reported missing at 5:41 p.m. Saturday.
Nain was found at 7:18 a.m. Sunday and taken to a hospital, where he died later that morning, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
An Amber Alert initiated Saturday night for a white panel van was canceled the next morning.
Details about the case will “not be available immediately” because the investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said in the release.
Nain “was a very happy boy who loved to dance and would always have a bright smile on his face,” according to a GoFundMe page set up on his family’s behalf, which had raised nearly $2,000 as of Monday evening “to help the family with his funeral expenses.”
