Denver Zoo expecting sloth baby by late February
Grab your champagne: The Denver Zoo announced Wednesday that it is expecting a baby sloth.
The sloth will be the first offspring of Charlotte and Elliot, who were matched as part of the Species Survival Plan, said zoo spokeswoman Marina Belisle.
Sloths have a 10-month gestation period, she said. Zookeepers believe Charlotte, who is a Linne’s two-toed sloth, is between 7 months and 10 months pregnant, meaning the baby could arrive anytime now through late February.
Visitors can spot Charlotte in one of the top corners of a room in Bird World. She’ll give birth in the exhibit.
