From the WWE to local independent federations, there’s no shortage of pro wrestling news. With our new weekly 3 Count blog, Gazette Sports designer and lifelong pro wrestling fan Derek Kuhn looks at the top three industry stories from the week and gives his take on them. This week’s 3 Count features news on the upcoming ESPN 30 for 30 on Ric Flair, AJ Styles gets a title shot and Colorado Springs Wrestling offering veterans and military members free tickets to Veterans Day show.

1. ESPN 30 for 30: Ric Flair

The dirtiest player in the game is set to style and profile onto ESPN at 10 p.m. ET, Tuesday. 30 for 30 will look at Ric Flair – the man, the myth and the legend. This episode should be spectacular with a lot of interesting insight into one of pro wrestling’s greatest performers. Flair, a 16-time world champion, has performed for decades across the world. Salacious insights include Flair claiming to have slept with more than 10,000 women.

Wrestlers such as The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and HHH will appear in the documentary. Undoubtedly ESPN has a few commenters it has yet to disclose. So if you’re a fan of stylin’, profilin’, limousine ridin’, jet flyin’, kiss-stealin’, wheelin’ n’ dealin’ sons of a gun, then you won’t want to miss Tuesday’s look at the Nature Boy.

2. AJ Styles gets title shot at Jinder Mahal on Tuesday

WWE announced Thursday that WWE champion Jinder Mahal will put his title on the line against AJ Styles. While this won’t come as a surprise to wrestling fans, reports from Dave Metlzer are that Styles could go over The Modern Day Maharaja, building for a Styles-vs.-WWE-Universal-champion-Brock-Lesnar showdown.

Speculation is that Smackdown Live’s low ratings are the cause, but nothing has been verified. Figure Four Online is reporting the Halloween night Smackdown Live had an audience of 2,535,000, down 34,000 viewers from the previous week and down 208,000 from the Halloween 2016 show.

Fans of The Phenomenal One should not hold their breath for a title change. While Styles easily is a better wrestler and overall performer, WWE has a tour of India and the company is positioning Mahal to be the centerpiece of the tour, considering he lacks the star power to fulfill that role without the championship.

3. Justin “Big Guns” Andrews announces free CSW tickets for military during Veterans Day show

Three service veteran and Colorado Air National guardsman Justin “Big Guns” Andrews announced on a Sunday Facebook video that veterans or active duty military will get into the Veterans Day Colorado Springs Wrestling show, “Bar Fights,” for free.

Military members may present a government ID, while veterans can present a VA card.

Currently on the card are Andrews, CSW champion Jimbo Lucas, the Midnight Marvels (think comic book superheroes turned wrestlers), Curtis Cole, Red Viper, Police Brutality Precinct, Gamesmaster and Mop Boy.

“Bar Fights” is at 6 p.m., Nov. 11, at The Playing Field Sports Bar, 3958 N Academy Blvd. The show will end at 8:45 p.m. Tickets cost between $10-$20 and can be purchased at www.coloradospringswrestling.com.

Alcohol will be available for purchase during the show for those older than 21.

Ric Flair’s 30 for 30 episode recently aired on ESPN.
