A white-collar criminal who lost a testicle while he was a prisoner at the Federal Prison Camp in Florence is seeking $1.8 million for negligence by the prison medical staff.

A civil claim was filed Friday in Denver U.S. District Court on behalf of Brad Demuzio, 38, of Chubbuck, Idaho, claiming he suffered pain, mental anguish, bodily injury and permanent scarring.

Demuzio, the former president of Demuzio Capital Management, was convicted of wire fraud and sentenced in 2012 to prison. He worked as an orderly while behind bars.

On Dec. 31, 2014, Demuzio awoke at 3 a.m. with severe pain in his groin in the right testicular area, the lawsuit says. The intense pain caused him to sweat profusely. He changed his clothes and bedding.
