Inside Out expands headquarters, services in downtown Colorado Springs
Inside Out Youth Services has moved into a bigger downtown space, and its services are expanding too.
The building that housed the nonprofit on South Tejon Street has been sold, and Inside Out has moved to 223 N. Wahsatch Ave., increasing its space from 1,800 to 2,400 square feet.
The new space is close to Palmer High School and within walking distance of Urban Peak Colorado Springs, which serves homeless young people.
Inside Out – serving LGBT and identity-questioning people ages 13 to 22 – recently received a Tony Grampsas Youth Services grant, named for the late longtime state senator and representative. The nonprofit will receive $126,000 over three years to beef up its services.
Executive Director Mary Malia has big plans for the new space, including:
– A private room for social worker interns to provide counseling for clients
– A separate “quiet room” and library providing an escape from the noise of many youths shooting pool, playing games and having fun
– A multipurpose meeting room for support groups
– Private bathrooms
– More room for the organization’s food and clothing bank
– “My own office, thank God,” Malia says.
