Don’t make it easy for thieves while enjoying the outdoors, Colorado Springs police warn
With more warm days approaching, it is the perfect time for a quick hike or trip to the park, and a perfect time for motor vehicle break-ins.
The Colorado Springs Police Department offered the following tips on how to keep valuables safe while you are out enjoying colorful Colorado:
– If you don’t need it, leave it at home. If you do need it, carry it with you when you leave your car.
– Never leave items containing personal identification in your car such as driver’s license. If you have to, lock it in the glove compartment.
– Don’t always put valuables in your trunk because newer cars may have interior buttons to open trunks or pass through areas in the rear seat. Sometimes thieves will watch parking lots and trailheads in areas to see if you tuck a purse or briefcase under the seat or lock items in the trunk, police warned.
– Don’t try and be sneaky; thieves will look under coats and blankets to see if you’ve hidden your valuables under them.
– Always lock your car, and never leave spare keys in your car unless you want a thief to take off with it.
