D-2 to host teacher fair Saturday
Harrison School District 2 will host its annual teacher fair Saturday for teachers and educational professionals looking for work.
The fair will run from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Zalman Center, 2755 Janitell Road. This is the third year of the fair, and it’s the only one held on-site each year.“Basically, the goals are … to recruit the best teachers we can to continue improving our district,” said Ross Green, multimedia content production specialist for D-2.
The district consists of 19 schools: two high schools, a high school preparatory school, three middle schools and 13 elementary schools. The principals from each school will attend the fair, and applicants will be interviewed on the spot. People could walk away with jobs, according to Green.
“They do the interviews on site,” Green said. “They really give you that face-to-face connection right away instead of submitting an application, waiting to hear back two or three weeks not knowing if you’re going to be called back. So it’s a really good opportunity for aspiring teachers and educators.”
Green said it’s not just teachers that are wanted, but all of the schools in District 2 are looking for other positions — including counselors, school psychologists and speech therapists. Teachers for all levels are needed, but of particular interest are math, science and special education teachers. Anyone hoping to attend the teacher fair can bring a résumé, cover letter and anything else they feel is necessary for a potential job interview.
Harrison stands out from other districts, for students and employees, Green said. “We’re constantly innovative in a way that we’re always adding opportunities for students,” he said. “And you couple that with the awards that we’re winning in recent years and the grants that we’re receiving, there’s just so many opportunities for students.”
D-2’s Wildfire Elementary School was a National Title 1 award winner this year, and Soaring Eagles Elementary won the National Blue Ribbon. Turman Elementary School and Sand Creek Elementary School have also won grants for their health programs and were named 2017 Healthy School Champions by The Colorado Education Initiative. District 2 has won the English Language Proficiency Act Excellence Award for high scores in the growth of English learners and English in Colorado.
“The district is constantly improving, and our school records show that,” Green said. “We’re doing great work, and our principals are doing great work, and really, we’re just on the rise.”
District 2 also offers educational and professional tools for teachers to grow as leaders once hired, and they are committed to supporting their teachers, Green said. “So many of the schools provide such a fun environment for teachers,” he said. “You can just tell that there’s this community; they really rally around the kids.”
