Breakdown: Doherty keeps rolling along, stretching its winning streak to seven last week, the last two in a home-and-home sweep of Liberty. The Spartans are 7-0 in league play. Rampart is a distant second at 4-2. . The week’s marquee game is a rematch of last season’s 4A state quarterfinal as Vista Ridge plays host to Lewis-Palmer on Wednesday. When the Wolves upended the Rangers last March, it marked their first win in the series. Then Vista Ridge downed Lewis-Palmer, 61-48 on Jan. 6, part of an 8-0 run in 5A/4A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference play. The Rangers haven’t lost since then, rolling off nine straight wins heading into the league rematch. Meanwhile, Vista Ridge has won 10 straight. Sierra also has won 10 games in a row and 38 straight in the 4A Metro League dating back to the 2013-14 season. Sand Creek fell to 6-2 in league play last week after setbacks to Vista Ridge and Lewis-Palmer. . Manitou Springs saw its season-opening, 11-game winning streak end in a nail-biting, 40-38 home loss to CSCS on Jan. 24. We’re keeping our eyes on a surging Vanguard (11-3) squad which, at 6-1 in Tri-Peaks League play, has temporarily wedged itself between CSCS and Manitou into second place. The Coursers host Manitou Springs on Feb. 8.

Breakdown: Doherty brings an eight-game winning streak into this week’s action. The Spartans meet Coronado on Tuesday before heading northeast to play Pine Creek on Thursday. The Eagles suffered their only league loss Jan. 10 in a 56-50 overtime decision at Doherty, which can put a stranglehold on the league race by completing a season sweep. . Two impressive streaks continue to get bigger in 4A. Mesa Ridge took a nine-game run into Monday’s game at TCA, while Air Academy built its to 14, the best in 4A. TCA enters the poll at No. 3 on the strength of a three-game winning streak and one of the area’s top defenses, allowing an average of 40.4 points. . In 3A, St. Mary’s stayed perfect in the Tri-Peaks League, but CSCS, after a 34-31 win at Manitou Springs on Jan. 24, lost at Lamar, 43-37 on Friday. Heading into the week’s games, St. Mary’s (7-0), CSCS (7-1) and Lamar (6-1) form a formidable top three. ECA returns to the 3A and Below rankings at No. 3 and can make things quite interesting in the 2A Black Forest League if it can knock off Simla (9-2, 3-0) on Thursday.
