John Leyba
DENVER — Jorge Masvidal, who used Colorado Springs as a training ground, stopped Donald Cerrone in the second round by technical knockout at the 1-minute mark, sending the Pepsi Center crowd home unhappy.
Masvidal nearly ended the fight at the end of the first round when he dropped the Air Academy High School graduate with a left-right combination.
As Masvidal moved in for the finish, he landed a few strikes, but the horn sounded and the round ended.
The loss snapped a four-fight win streak for Cerrone in the welterweight division.
It also notched Masvidal’s third consecutive victory.
In the main event moments later, women’s bantamweight No. 1 Valentina Shevchenko (14-2) submitted No. 2 Julianna Pena (8-3) with an armbar in the second round, a stunning way to win for the striker.
“Yes, I’m a striker,” Shevchenko said. “But I’m an MMA fighter, I’m a complete fighter.”

OUCH! Commercial in the building with Ronda Rousey just got booed by the Pepsi Center fans.
—
Pepsi Center fans gave huge applause when Rose Namajunas was shown on the big screen.
Then they went even louder when Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was shown walking through the building.
—
Three of the first four fights have all ended via submission or TKO/KOs.
Not a bad ratio.
Should make for some interesting choices for Performance of the Night.
