Breakdown: The week’s big city showdown takes place Tuesday when Rampart travels to Doherty. The Rams already are one game behind in the league standings after falling to Liberty, winners of five straight games, last week. Doherty swept Rampart last season and has dominated the series, winning 19 of the past 23 meetings. Vista Ridge maintains its third-place ranking thanks to a six-game winning streak. … The top of the 4A field is crowded with streakers in Sand Creek and Mesa Ridge (seven games) and Sierra (six) playing great basketball. Sand Creek is averaging nearly 80 points, raised a bit after Friday’s 106-66 win over Falcon. The Scorpions had hit 99 points in two contests earlier this year. Sierra and Mesa Ridge should keep their respective streaks alive this week, then one will have to end when the teams meet at Sierra on Jan. 24. … CSCS suffered a loss to reigning 4A state champ Pueblo West on Saturday, but the Lions are unbeaten against 3A foes. Manitou Springs hits the road this week with games at Trinidad on Tuesday, then undefeated Peyton on Saturday.

Breakdown: Doherty jumps into the top spot in 5A after a 56-50 win over Pine Creek on Jan. 10. The Spartans have won three straight after an overtime loss at Pueblo South on Jan. 3. Liberty has won seven straight and ended a nine-game losing streak to Rampart on Saturday. Next up for the Lancers is Pine Creek, a team they haven’t conquered in the past nine encounters. The District 20 rivals meet Tuesday at Liberty. . Air Academy continued its winning ways, running its streak to nine games with a pair of victories last week. Falcon’s 13-game losing streak to Sand Creek ended Friday. The Falcons will hope to build off that at this weekend’s nonleague tournament in Colby, Kan., where they’ll meet Pine Creek on Thursday. . St. Mary’s went on the road Jan. 10 and put yet another feather in its cap of impressive wins by taking down previously undefeated Pueblo East, one of the state’s premier 4A squads. Then the Pirates pulled away from rival Manitou Springs on Friday. ECA saw its season-opening seven-game winning streak end Saturday in a home loss to Ellicott.

Breakdown: Cheyenne Mountain took a three-game losing streak into Monday’s game against Pine Creek. The Indians later meet Battle Mountain on the road Friday in hopes of avenging a home loss to the Huskies this past Saturday. After starting the season with six straight setbacks, Lewis-Palmer got into the win column last week, first against Pine Creek, then in a shutout of Pueblo County. Coronado travels to meet Pueblo County on Tuesday in a rematch of the Hornets’ 4-1 win at Sertich on Jan. 6.
