Joe Woods to be named Broncos’ defensive coordinator
Joe Woods, the air-traffic controller of the Broncos’ “No Fly Zone” secondary the past two seasons, will soon control much more. Woods, 46, will be named the Broncos’ defensive coordinator, according to an NFL source, taking over for Wade Phillips.
The Broncos’ coaching overhaul began in earnest last Thursday, soon after Vance Joseph was introduced as the team’s 16th head coach. Multiple staffers departed or were dismissed and Phillips, whose contract as defensive coordinator expired after the season, reached an agreement to take the same job with the Los Angeles Rams.
Phillips had to move on. And Woods was moved up.
