Son fighting for his life after being stabbed by dad at Fountain campground, police say

FOUNTAIN – A Florida father is accused of inflicting life-threatening stab wounds on his namesake son during a fight at a KOA campground on New Year’s Eve.

Ovidio Lopez Jr., 52, was in El Paso County jail Sunday on $10,000 bond, charged with first-degree assault.

Ovidio Lopez III was taken to Memorial Hospital, Fountain police said.

Fountain police were dispatched to the campground about 11 p.m. and found several people outside one of the cabins, including a man with a bloody shirt, said Sgt. Scott Gilbertsen, department spokesman.

“They found out a fight had broken out between father and son,” Gilbertsen said. “Dad produced a knife and allegedly stabbed his son. They were serious wounds; they could be considered life-threatening.”

The hospital was not releasing information on the younger Lopez.

The senior Lopez has a court appearance Wednesday.
