Broncos FB Andy Janovich has surgery on ankle, will go on IR
The Broncos entered last Sunday’s loss against the Chiefs the healthiest they’ve been since the start of the season. They left with multiple injuries to key contributors, including fullback Andy Janovich.
Coach Gary Kubiak said Janovich underwent surgery on his ankle Tuesday and will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season early as the Broncos continue their playoff push. The fullback injured his foot on the first play of the game Sunday, when he caught a short pass from quarterback Trevor Siemian for a loss of one yard. He played through the pain for the remainder of the game for a total of 32 offensive snaps (38 percent) and eight special-teams snaps (19 percent).
“Obviously, he’s part of our two-back stuff and he had progressed and was doing some great stuff,” offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said. “But that’s the nature of the deal. Sometimes you lose some guys that you were counting on. But he’s a tough guy.”
