Monday’s prep roundup: Boys’ golf regional results aplenty

BOYS’ GOLF

5A Southern Region

At South Suburban: Liberty’s Brandon Bervig tied Doherty’s Riley Dunlap for sixth, as both shot 75 and qualified for the 5A state tournament. Doherty’s Andrew Stroh also qualified for state after finishing 15th with a 77.

5A Northern Region

At Saddle Rock: Pine Creek qualified two golfers for state. Andrew Doyle placed eighth with a 76 and Gabe Keller was 16th with an 81.

4A Region 2

At Broken Tee: Palmer Ridge qualified three golfers for state, while Cheyenne Mountain will send two and Air Academy one.

Josh Howe placed third in the region with a 74, while teammates Elijah Harp and Trey Jones just made the state cut, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively.

Cheyenne Mountain’s Everett Dwyer shot a 76 to finish seventh, and teammate Aiden Detlof was one spot behind in eighth with a 79.

Reice Henricks of Air Academy qualified for state, finishing 13th. His teammate, Justin Chiacchia, lost a playoff for the final spot, and will be the first alternate.

3A Region 1

At Hollydot: Manitou Springs finished second, which qualifies all four of its golfers for the 3A state tournament.

Lucas Culver shot a 6-over 77 to finish second, while teammates Preston Salsgiver, Jaeden Jones and Bryon Baca each finished 17 over to tie for 12th.

St. Mary’s qualified two players for state – Stephen Sabish, who finished fifth, and Jack Velten, who tied for eighth.

3A Region 2

At Common Ground: The Classical Academy will send two golfers to state. Liam O’Halloran tied for seventh with teammate Bobby Ball.

CSCS’ Justin Hoekert missed the state cut by one stroke, lost a playoff hole for the first alternate spot, and will be the second alternate.

SOFTBALL

Falcon 13, Cheyenne Mountain 7

At Cheyenne Mountain: Falcon trailed 4-2 after three innings before scoring six times in the fourth and four more times in the fifth.

Taylor Striebel led the Falcon offense, going 3 for 5 with four RBIs, and pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and striking out five.

Natalie Searle added two hits and three RBIs for the Falcons (8-6, 3-1 4A Pikes Peak), while Alexa Winter and Tierney Norris each knocked in two runs.

Ashlynn Ralston was a bright spot for the 4A/3A No. 3 Indians (5-5, 1-2), going 3 for 3 with two RBIs at the plate, and only giving up one earned run in three innings. Discovery Canyon 13, Lewis-Palmer 3 (6)

At Discovery Canyon: The Thunder scored three times in the third and fifth innings, and ended things with a four-run sixth.

Pikes Peak region 4A/3A No. 1 Discovery Canyon (8-5, 4-0 4A Pikes Peak) got two RBIs each from Amber Rees, Madison McCoy, Ki Givens and Mary Roach. Jessica Johnson pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.

Megan Nunez’s sacrifice fly was the lone RBI for the Rangers (7-7, 1-2).

Air Academy 19, Sand Creek 1 (3)

At Air Academy: The 4A/3A No. 2 Kadets exploded for 12 runs in the first, and added seven over the next two innings to end this one in three.

Air Academy (9-4, 3-1 4A Pikes Peak) has won its past two games by a combined score of 35-3, and remains one game behind Discovery Canyon for first place in the conference.

Sand Creek (3-8, 0-3) had three hits.

Vista Ridge 12, Palmer Ridge 2

At Palmer Ridge: The Wolves scored 10 runs in the first two innings, and pitchers Midori Williams and Chloe Ewing combined to pitch five strong innings, giving up no earned runs on one hit.

Kaitlyn Lord had a triple and three RBIs to lead the Vista Ridge (7-6-1, 2-1 4A Pikes Peak) offense, and Aubrey Martinez added a double and two RBIs.

No stats were reported for Palmer Ridge (7-6, 0-4).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sand Creek 4, Mesa Ridge 3

At Mesa Ridge: The Scorpions swept the singles matches to edge the Grizzlies.

Sand Creek No. 1 singles Timothy Swanson defeated Travis Hiser 6-0, 7-5, while No. 2 singles Terrence Jones topped Seth Duran 6-0, 6-2.

Mesa Ridge got victories from its No. 1, 2 and 4 doubles teams.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Bear Creek 3, Liberty 0

At Bear Creek: The Lancers fell to 1-8, but the good news is 5A Metro Conference play is about to start, and Liberty has time to turn things around.

VOLLEYBALL

Palmer 3, Gateway 0

At Palmer: The Terrors rolled 25-13, 25-13, 25-6, led by seven kills from both Jordyn Hasbrouck and Sarah Hunt. Francesca Auza had six aces, Rheanna Mears had 19 assists and Annabel White had nine digs for Palmer (4-3).
