Highlights from Wednesday’s high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.

BOYS’ GOLF

Titan Scramble

At Eisenhower Golf Club Silver Course: Nineteen teams from 3A, 4A and 5A took to the course in the scramble.

In the 5A classification, Liberty beat Legacy by two shots with a team score of 61 to take first place.

The 4A division was won by Evergreen while Palmer took second place with a 69.

The Classical Academy won the 3A classification by seven strokes with a 66. A 73 earned St. Mary’s second place after a tiebreaker with Jefferson Academy.

Of the 19 teams, six were 5A, seven 4A and six 3A.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Discovery Canyon 10, Pueblo Central 0

At D-20 Stadium: Discovery Canyon (2-2) won its home opener in style by taking down Pueblo Central (0-4).

Pueblo South 3, Fountain-Fort Carson 2 (OT)

At Dutch Clark: Despite two second-half goals from Fountain-Fort Carson (0-4-2), the Trojans fell in overtime to Pueblo South (4-3).

The Classical Academy 7, Valor Christian 0

At Valor Christian: Pikes Peak 4A No. 3 TCA improved to 2-2 on the season, defeating Valor Christian (2-3). TCA scored three goals in the first half.

SOFTBALL

Vista Ridge 18, Cheyenne Mountain 2 (4 innings)

At Vista Ridge: Vista Ridge (4-6-1, 1-1 5A/4A Pikes Peak) stopped a three-game losing skid as the Wolves defeated Pikes Peak 4A/3A No. 3 Cheyenne Mountain (4-4, 1-1 5A/4A Pikes Peak). Vista Ridge used a nine-run third inning to pull away for good. Sophomore Chloe Ewing led Vista Ridge with three RBIs and allowed two earned runs on five hits pitching. Freshman Katelynn Ralston had two hits and knocked in an RBI for Cheyenne Mountain.

Discovery Canyon 4, Falcon 2

At Falcon: Pikes Peak 4A/3A No. 1 Discovery Canyon (7-4, 3-0 5A/4A Pikes Peak) remained undefeated in league play after handling Falcon (7-6, 2-1). Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning, and Discovery Canyon added one in the seventh to finish the scoring. Junior Ki Givens had two RBIs for Discovery Canyon, while sophomores Madi Robertson and Taylor Striebel knocked in the two RBIs for Falcon.

Lewis-Palmer 12, Sand Creek 7

At Lewis-Palmer: L-P (7-6, 1-1 5A/4A Pikes Peak) scored four runs in the first inning on the way to defeating Sand Creek (2-7, 0-2 5A/4A Pikes Peak). Sophomore Bridget Cassidy had three hits and four RBIs in the win for Lewis-Palmer. Senior Hannah Williamson scored three runs and added three hits in the defeat for Sand Creek.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Doherty 6, Mesa Ridge 1

At Doherty: Doherty (1-4) won all three singles matches and three of four doubles matches on the way to victory over Mesa Ridge (1-5-1). Sophomore Dominic Manzo won his No. 2 singles match for Doherty in straight sets, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. Junior Luke Grotelueschen and sophomore Isaac Wright had the lone victory for Mesa Ridge in No. 2 doubles, 4-6, 7-5 and 6-2.

VOLLEYBALL

Pueblo Centennial 3, Widefield 2

At Widefield: Although Widefield (2-7) took the match to five sets, the Gladiators fell to Pueblo Centennial (7-2) 23-25, 25-19, 25-12, 24-26 and 15-8.

Harrison 3, Florence 0At Harrison: Harrison (1-10) got its first win of the season by sweeping Florence (1-12) 25-20, 25-15 and 25-23.

Senior Airen Roslaniec had four aces to help Harrison tovictory.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Tommie Johnson was tabbed the new Sand Creek girls’ basketball coach, Sand Creek announced via Twitter.

Johnson takes over for B.J. Johnson, who led the Scorpions to last year’s Class 4A semifinals. B.J. Johnson stepped down after getting hired by the Brooklyn Nets as their director of scouting.

Tommie Johnson marks the team’s fourth coach in as many seasons.
