Schriever Air Force Base jumps on the ‘Pokemon Go’ train
Schriever jumps on the Pokemon craze
While the Air Force offers many badges attesting to an airman’s mastery of military skills, Schriever Air Force Base is offering a new one – Pokemon master.
“Do you love Pokémon, Pokémon GO or just love earning things?” Schriever said on its website. “The Chaplain’s office has you covered. Come pick up a challenge sheet from the Chaplain’s office in Building 300 and complete all eight quests.”
If anyone on the planet can find Pokemon, it would be airmen at Schriever and its 50th Space Wing. They run the nation’s Global Positioning System as well as other military satellite constellations. Those who finish the base’s Pokemon Challenge will be “named Pokémon master,” Schriever said.

High-altitude site shows rescue list
The Colorado National Guard’s High Altitude Army Aviation Training Site in Eagle has a sign attesting to its work in the Rockies.
The Guard pilots are frequently called to hunt lost hikers and pull injured adventurers from the high country, including a rescue near Snowmass Peak last week.
The sign shows the score of those rescue missions: 393 lives saved so far. The Guard said the sign celebrates 30 years for the training site and includes movable numbers so the total can keep adding up.

Successful missile firing in California
The successful test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile lit up the California night sky last week, the Air Force said in a news release.
The Labor Day launch of an unarmed Minuteman III missile from Vandenberg Air Force Base was part of a regular program to ensure the 1970s-era missiles still work.
The missile traveled about 4,200 miles to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the Air Force said.
