Republican opponent withdraws from challenge to state Rep. Pete Lee
The Republican candidate for state House District 18 has withdrawn from the race, leaving the El Paso County GOP scrambling for someone to oppose incumbent Rep. Pete Lee.
The county Republicans will hold an appointment committee meeting of eligible voters in the district on Thursday night to see if anyone wants to take over the challenge of Lee, a Democrat first elected in 2010.
The district covers a long, narrow stretch from Manitou springs in the west to eastern Colorado Springs, picking up part of the neighborhoods surrounding The Broadmoor hotel.
Sonya Rose withdrew from the race, El Paso County Republican Party Communications Director Daniel Cole said Wednesday. The vacancy committee, which is a predetermined group of people likely precinct leaders in the district, is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Republican Party headquarters: 205 Sutton Lane, Colorado Springs.
