Local Children’s Museum Exhibit Teaches Kids About Responsible Choices
Pikes Peak Children’s Museum exhibit inspires eco-friendly superheroes. Opens June 1, 2016.
Pikes Peak Children’s Museum is hosting a second traveling exhibit, Super Kids Save the World, beginning June 1. This summer’s exhibit follows on the heels of a successful first exhibit in 2015 that attracted more than 7,000 visitors. These exhibits are part of the PPCM’s plan to offer hands-on, interactive learning opportunities to children of the Pikes Peak region.
Super Kids Save the World is based on the British children’s book, George Saves the World by Lunchtime written by Jo Readman and illustrated by Ley Honor Roberts. Developed by the Eden Project, an educational charity dedicated to showing the importance of taking care of our world, this book features an ordinary family, who in the course of their day save the world simply by making responsible choices. George, Flora and Grandpa demonstrate that by taking simple steps, families can become eco-friendly superheroes in their own communities.
At the Super Kids Save the World exhibit, kids can tag along on George’s heroic adventureand have a super time donning a cape and boots to become energy-saving superheroes, peddling a bike to light up a city street, visiting a Farmer’s Market, dressing up at the Reuse Charity Shop, making science discoveries about alternative energy sources in the Research Lab and much more. Super Kids Save the World is a new hands-on traveling exhibit created by The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum in partnership with the Crawford Taylor Foundation and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Created for kids ages one to ten, Super Kids Save the World is presented locally by Pikes Peak Children’s Museum and Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Founded in 2005, Pikes Peak Children’s Museum is working to bring a permanent children’s museum to Colorado Springs. As one of only six of the 50 largest cities in the U.S. without a permanent children’s museum, Pikes Peak Children’s Museum believes the need in Colorado Springs is great. A primary goal of any children’s museum is to spark a passion for lifelong learning using exploration, wonder, discovery, fun and hands-on experimentation as channels for learning. Children’s museums make the most of a child’s natural curiosity, giving children room to explore using resources not typically available in a child’s home or school.
