CSCS 14, Salida 12

At Salida: Freshman Eli Rash went 4 for 5 with five RBIs, Quinn Stowell hit a two-run home run, and Pikes Peak 3A No. 3 CSCS (11-3, 6-2 3A Tri-Peaks West) blew a big lead, then hung on to beat Salida to win its first league title in 14 years.

CSCS overcame six errors as starting pitcher Zach Zeien allowed 12 runs, of which only three were earned, and struck out 10 in 62/3 innings.

The Lions scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 10-2 lead, only to watch Salida score seven of its own to trim the deficit to 10-9.

Stowell’s blast helped CSCS wrestle back the momentum in the sixth, when the Lions scored three times to extend the lead to 13-9.

“I told my athletic director (Jason Rollins) before the season that we needed to get new numbers on that banner,” first-year Lions coach Kyle Burton said. “I wasn’t expecting that big of a turnaround in our first season, but the boys persevered the whole way.”

Last season, CSCS went just 1-8 in league play.

The Lions finished league play one game ahead of Manitou Springs (5-3).

Fountain-Fort Carson 8, Pine Creek 1

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Jay Onken struck out eight and allowed only four hits in a complete-game victory to help Pikes Peak 5A No. 1 Pine Creek (13-2, 6-2 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) salvage a split with Pikes Peak 5A No. 3 Fountain-Fort Carson (10-5, 5-3).

Jay Olson’s run-scoring single in the sixth inning scored Wade Council to break a 2-2 tie.

The Eagles, the reigning and six-time CSML champs, kept their one-game lead over the Trojans heading into the final week of the season. It’s not just a two-team race; Doherty (4-2), Palmer (5-3) and Liberty (3-3) all remain within striking distance.

Ricky Marshall tossed a complete-game three-hitter, and Nate Downs and Trey Daub had consecutive two-run doubles in a six-run fifth inning as the Trojans took the opener.

Woodland Park 2, Manitou Springs 1 (8 innings)

At Manitou Springs: Connor Elliott had three hits and pitched into the seventh inning, allowing only one run, and Woodland Park (10-7) pushed a run across in the eighth inning to stop Manitou Springs (8-8).

Jake Jansma earned the win in relief for the Panthers, pitching the final 12/3 innings, yielding just one hit. Davyn Adamscheck was charged with the loss in relief.

Jason Kekich went 2 for 4 for Woodland Park, while Travis Struble knocked in the only run for Manitou Springs.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

CSCS 2, Fountain Valley 1

At CSCS: CSCS (7-3-1) bounced back from a loss to Manitou Springs on April 26, getting the tiebreaking goal in the second half in beating Fountain Valley (9-2) to snap the Danes’ six-game winning streak.

Carter Gwinn scored the lone goal for Fountain Valley.

Liberty 8, Palmer 0

At D20 Stadium: Morgan Metcalf scored three times and added one assist, and five other Liberty players scored one goal each as the Pikes Peak 5A No. 3 Lancers (8-4, 4-0 5A Colorado Springs Metro League) routed Palmer (2-11, 1-4) and set the stage for Tuesday’s first-place showdown with Pikes Peak 5A No. 1 Pine Creek (9-2, 4-0) .

Longmont 10, Mesa Ridge 0

At Mesa Ridge: Longmont’s seven-goal outburst in the first half, followed by three more in the second, put a quick end to a Mesa Ridge (6-7) four-game winning streak.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Palmer Ridge 13, Rampart 6

At Don Breese Stadium: Pikes Peak No. 1 Palmer Ridge (9-3, 5-0 Southern League) clinched the league title as the Bears used a 7-2 run in the second half to pull away from Rampart (3-8, 2-2) for their eighth straight win.

Sophomore Lucy Johnson scored four goals for Rampart, which trailed only 6-4 at halftime.

Cheyenne Mountain 18, Liberty 9

At Pine Creek: Anna Hortik scored four times, leading a balanced effort as Pikes Peak No. 2 Cheyenne Mountain (5-8, 4-1 Southern) dominated Liberty (5-7, 1-4) to rebound from its only league loss to Palmer Ridge.

The Indians, who also got three goals apiece from Rachel Sheridan and Jolie Gilbreth, scored nine goals in each half.

Abby Ross, Megan Mann and Kaia Horaz scored two goals each for Liberty.

ThunderRidge 17, Air Academy 7

At Air Academy: ThunderRidge rolled to its 12th victory in 13 games, romping past Air Academy (7-6) in nonleague action.

The Grizzlies led 8-4 at halftime and then outscored the Kadets 9-3 in the second half.

Stats for Air Academy were not available.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Air Academy 11, Cherokee Trail 10

At Legacy Stadium: Jake Thornally scored five goals, younger brother Noah Thornally added three goals, and Air Academy (8-5) held off Cherokee Trail for a big road nonleague victory.

The Kadets led 7-5 at halftime and 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Pueblo Centennial Invitational

At Pueblo County Club: Maxine Choi shot an 82 for the individual title, leading Cheyenne Mountain to an 11-shot team victory over Palmer Ridge, the Indians’ eighth consecutive tournament win.

Cheyenne Mountain’s Regina Dillon (91) and Casey Fetters (95) also registered top-10 finishes, while Palmer Ridge sisters Kellsey (86) and Ashlee (88) Sample finished third and fourth, respectively.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Widefield 6, Harrison 1

At Widefield: Noelle Artmeier and Sydney Villers earned straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, to lead Widefield to a dual win over Harrison.

Harrison top singles player Judy Rascon scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Erica Johnson for the Panthers’ victory.

Discovery Canyon 7, Pueblo South 0

At Pueblo South: Discovery Canyon scored seven straight-set victories as the Thunder finished the regular season 8-1 in dual matches and prepared for their upcoming regional tournament at Kent Denver.

Mesa Ridge 7, Mitchell 0

At Mitchell: Mesa Ridge lost just three games in a dual win over Mitchell.

Colorado Meet of Champions

At Highlands Ranch: Vista Ridge’s Anthony Peters took first in the triple jump (46 feet, 2¾ inches) and 300-meter hurdles (39.37 seconds), while teammate Breon Michel won the long jump with an effort of 22-6½.

Cheyenne Mountain boys’ runners claimed two wins as Thomas Staines (800) and James Jones (3,200) crossed the finish line first.

In the girls’ division, Cheyenne Mountain senior Madison Lambros won the 3,200, and the Indians’ 800 relay team took first as well.
