Kia boosts size, styling, and technology in Sportage

In America’s most popular vehicle segment, (compact crossover SUV’s), not only has Kia Sportage prospered into a formidable player – thanks to insightful styling, intelligent functionality, innovative packaging, and affordable pricing – but according to J.D. Power, Korean auto makers are leading the industry in initial quality by the widest margin ever.  In fact, the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study shows Kia trailing only Porsche in the rankings, marking the first time Kia has led all non-premium makes in initial quality.

Sportage’s inspired concept and well executed design hits the right spot for compact SUV buyers. Delivering a stylish, attractive package inside and out, the 2017 Kia’s Sportage boasts even smarter styling and a seven-year warranty, while delightfully keeping prices affordable.

“The completely redesigned 2017 Sportage offers buyers a more modern crossover,” said Michael Keef, Internet Account Manager at Phil Long Kia.  “This model comes with with LED lights throughout, automatic fog lights, all soft-touch materials, full-size back-up camera and sensors, and true all-wheel drive with locking differential, as well as more interior room.”

Although Kia has always crafted attractive cars, the 2017 Sportage is sportier and more profoundly sculpted this time around. Enhanced by shapely curves with the wheels pushed out to the corners, the newest model displays a more substantial real pillar, protruding head lamps and more aggressive front end.

Along with a bolder appearance, the fourth generation Sportage includes a stiffer structure, new suspension, advanced driver assistance systems, and premium materials, putting Sportage at the top of the class.

The 2017 is crafted with a roomier, more luxurious cabin with high-quality, soft-touch materials and a range of technologies.  The new Sportage’s interior is clean and modern, advancing overall comfort, convenience, and connectivity.  Well-bolstered seating and an ergonomic, driver-centric cabin comes in a sleek and comfortable bundle. The dashboard is split into an upper display zone, and lower control zone, with the center control panel and touch screen infotainment angled toward the driver.

Due to the larger capacity, headroom and legroom has been boosted in the front and the rear, cargo room increased quite a bit to 30.7 cu.-ft., and outward visibility is better. Engineers have reduced cabin noise, vibration and harshness by making some suspension improvements, adding some extra sound-absorbent materials, and thicker glass.

New on-board technology makes Sportage the most modern, innovative and high-tech car in its class. The LX comes equipped with a standard 5.0-inch color touchscreen featuring Bluetooth hands-free phone operation and streaming audio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and rear-camera display.

Stepping up to the EX gets a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with the latest version of Kia’s telematics and infotainment system, UVO3. Complete with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and UVO eServices featuring 14 telematics services, the system features up to 8 GB of music storage and access to Pandora though the touch screen.

All Sportages come standard with a 160-watt six-speaker audio system, and a 320-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system is available with eight speakers (including subwoofer), an external amplifier, and Clari-FiTM music restoration technology.

Keeping the four-cylinder engine from its predecessor, the 2017 comes with a 2.4-liter rated at 181 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque in the base engine. A turbocharged 2.0-liter is also available, which is rated at 241 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are joined with an updated six-speed Sportmatic transmission.

“The 2.4 liter, four-cylinder engine gives drivers amazing power while keeping it gas efficient at the same time,” Keef said. “It’s the best of both worlds. And the Sportage offers all of the options buyers are looking for while keeping the price low.”

Kia provides the Magna Dynamax™ intelligent all-wheel drive system on every trim level and features a 50/50 locking center differential.  The system senses, predicts, and optimizes traction requirements for all road and weather conditions.

Refining Sportage’s steering and suspension, engineers targeted better road feel and smoother, more precise steering by reducing friction within the steering gear and moving elements in order to improve weight distribution.

Advanced high-strength steel creates the Iso-Structure unibody featuring chassis rigidity and a complete array of active and passive safety systems help keep safety at the forefront. Intelligent driver-assistance technologies include an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Front and side airbags are controlled by an advanced sensor system designed to respond with the maximum immediacy.

“Phil Long includes the first two-years of maintenance on each new car purchase,” Keef said, “But Kia believes you shouldn’t have to be a mechanic to do maintenance on your car. Parts are all clearly labeled and easy to access so almost anyone can replace a filter or other simple maintenance.”
