Fire danger comes Monday, but snow looms later

The Pikes Peak region is in for a couple of days of dangerous fire weather this week, according to National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Warm temperatures and high wind are in the forecast for Monday, when a red flag warning for high fire danger will be in effect from 1-7 p.m. A red flag warning is the weather service’s highest level of danger for fires, when dry conditions, high temperatures and high winds can cause wildfires to explode.

The fire danger will continue into Tuesday, but lessen into a fire weather watch, which Sunday forecasts estimated will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

And a late winter week in Colorado wouldn’t be complete without a dramatic change in weather. After cooler temperatures and more wind on Wednesday, Thursday is expected to bring rain and a chance of snow overnight and into Friday.
