5 downtown Colorado Springs dining tips for this weekend
Whether you’re headed downtown this weekend or simply in the area, we have five restaurant reviews of downtown favorites.
Over Easy
Once seated, we could not have asked for a friendlier, helpful server. Even the owner checked in. The saving grace, though, was heaping plates of well- prepared food. These not only helped to assuage our attitudes – sometimes it is not just a belly that grumbles – but certainly satisfied our palates. See menu here.

Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza
The entrees are largely composed of pizza (pizze, as noted on the menu). In fact, there are 15 possibilities, with the option of customizing from an array of extras – from the usual such as anchovy to the sublime like fiery shrimp. The pizzas are large enough for two to share, if a salad is added. I wanted my own because I like leftovers. In fact, we ordered two. See menu here.

The Skirted Heifer
The burgers are large two-handers, even if cut in half, and there’s the skirt to contend with. A good burger should be messy to eat, and this one ranks high on the untidy gauge – easily requiring two to three napkins. See menu here.

Panino’s Downtown
The locally owned downtown Panino’s opened in 1974 near Colorado College. It’s long been popular among locals and the school’s sports teams, particularly the hockey players. Numerous photos featuring the CC Tigers and other hockey teams adorn the walls. Given the size of the portions and the comfort-food flavors, it’s easy to see why this place packs in the crowds – composed of not just of athletes, but families, couples and others. See menu here

Paris Crepe Euro Cafe
Start in America with the Philly Cheese Steak crepe ($5). Order one and Wahid ladles a sizzling layer of traditional wheat batter onto a griddle. He spoons in delicious, thin-shaved, marinated beef and hot slivers of mushroom, sweet sautéed pepper and deeply caramelized onions, then melts a slice of bold Asiago cheese over the whole mess and folds it neatly in on itself. It makes a fast, fresh and delicious lunch.
