Health, Comfort, Happiness
Security Service Field, home of Colorado Springs Sky Sox Triple-A Baseball, happens to be the highest professional baseball park in North America at an elevation of 6,531 feet. But, did you know it was also the first professional sports venue in the world to install its own hot tub?
At the end of the right field foul line, the historic hot tub recognized as “the highest hot tub in professional sports,” is available for rent, and guests are served champagne and acknowledged on the main display.
Andy Rusk, owner of the family owned and operated Hanson HotSpring Spas, was the mastermind behind the groundbreaking idea 25 years ago. In business since 1978, Rusk has been at the helm for the last 30-plus years and has been recognized with multiple awards for Hot Springs Dealer of the Year.
“Hot Spring Spas are world leaders in manufacturing high quality spas,” Rusk said. “That’s why it’s the only brand we carry.” Hot Spring Spas offer a unique system that delivers an innovative massage along with features that maintain the hot water, and also keep operating costs low.
“They are very therapeutic,” said Rusk, “and they provide a great escape for families right in their own back yard.”
Although one time thought of as “party tubs,” Rusk said he gets a lot of feedback from customers saying that it’s one of the best “family time” settings they have. “Lots of parents tell us how great it is to unwind with the kids in the spa,” he said, “its neutral ground and very relaxing, so they end up having quality time in the hot tub.”
There’s much more to the spas than just relaxation, however. Hot tubs provide a wide range of health benefits thanks to the heat, the buoyancy and the massage.
Immersion in hot water increases circulation and can lower blood pressure. The buoyancy of the water reduces body weight by 90-percent, relieving pressure on joints and muscles, and works in combination with the relaxing aspect of the heat and massage. Studies show that hot tubs are known to benefit people with arthritis, stress, sore and tired muscles, and more.
The whole crew at Hanson’s takes steps to stay well-informed and go the extra mile to educate their customers to help them make a proper decision. “We listen to each customer and guide them to make the right choice for them,” said Rusk, “and we won’t tell them anything about the product that we can’t show them and prove,” Rusk said.
With over 30 tubs on the sales floor, ten tubs are filled at all times. “We invite customers to bring in their suits and ‘test-soak’ to be confident about their purchase,” Rusk said.
Hanson’s also offers installation and service, in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Woodland Park, and southeastern Colorado. “We help get the tub started up and make sure they’re comfortable operating it,” Rusk said. Service technicians are factory trained and attend classes and workshops that ensure they are current and proficient with all of Hanson’s products.
More than just a store and employees, the Hanson team are neighbors too, and firmly believe in being an involved part of the community by actively sponsoring or participating in organizations such as: Care and Share, Breast Cancer Awareness, Sky Sox Baseball, Wounded Warrior Project, Air Force Academy football, SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome Foundation), animal rescue groups, Colorado College Hockey, United Way and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, to name a few.
In addition, Rusk loves inviting the community to stop by and take advantage of his sunny coffee-bar space. “We’ve got free coffee and free WiFi,” he said. “We have a small networking group that meets here, and folks who are out on business calls can stop in for a place to have some coffee and catch up on emails.”
Rusk believes the community is what has kept him in business for so long, and he likes to give back. “We made it through the great recession still able to pay our bills and our employees because of our customers,” he said, “so we like to thank them.”
Two Customer Appreciation days every year, in the spring and at Christmas-time, give Rusk a chance to say ‘thanks’. “We have a big spread, I cook all the food,” he said. “It’s like a family gathering, customers visit with each other and we run specials all day and give away door prizes.” Last year they were happy to have over 100 customers enjoy the party.
This year Rusk is eager to introduce a new product line to further enhance his wellness offering. The product offering will focus on swim-in-place fitness, presenting a home fitness solution for anyone looking for a better workout. The new products will have an array of exercise opportunities, like top of the line swim-in-place technology, underwater treadmills, and so much more. Please be sure to drop in this spring to check out the latest new wellness offerings.
