Colorado College rallied from an early four-goal deficit to tie No. 2 North Dakota, 5-5, Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

After giving up four goals in the first 15 minutes, the Tigers (5-17-1, 3-9-1 NCHC) fought back to score the next five and hold a one-goal lead until Rhett Gardner scored with 31.9 seconds left with an extra attacker to even the National Collegiate Hockey Conference game.

Neither team scored during five minutes of 5-on-5 and five minutes of 3-nn-3, then UND capitalized in the first round of the shootout (Brock Boeser) to gain the extra point in the standings.

“Every guy gave in our locker room gave his heart and soul tonight,” coach Mike Haviland said in a press release. “We got a tie in a tough building and every point counts.”

The return of freshman Trey Bradley from a two-game league suspension boosts the Colorado College depth up front. He will play on a line centered by his brother and senior Cody Bradley alongside junior Matt Hansen.

The line of seniors Hunter Fejes and Sam Rothstein and junior Luc Gerdes (26 points last eight games) also remains intact.

The third line of freshmen Trevor Gooch, Tanner Ockey and Mason Bergh clicked well during the St. Cloud State series and give the Tigers (5-17, 3-9 NCHC) better offensive balance.

“They played pretty well and having Trey back with Cody gives us three lines, which you need,” CC coach Mike Haviland said. “(Trey) is very excited to play. He learned a tough lesson. He gives us more depth, especially on the power play (three goals), and offensively.”

Junior forward Christian Heil is scheduled to center the fourth line but remains a game time decision. He has recovered from an ankle fracture suffered Thanksgiving weekend. The other option on the fourth line is warm-up skater and sophomore Duggie Lagrone.

Junior assistant captain Zach Aman is unavailable for the next month after a minor procedure to treat a lower-body injury. He and healthy scratches Michael King and Derek Shatzer stayed behind in Colorado Springs headed into this weekend’s road series at No. 2 North Dakota.

Senior Peter Maric traveled to Grand Forks and is a healthy scratch for Friday.

North Dakota’s top two scorers, Drake Caggiula and Nick Schmaltz, are both out with injuries.
