Where to rent, where to buy: Breaking down where renting beats owning in Colorado
Greeley, long considered a haven for families searching for affordable housing, has joined the “no room at the inn” camp, according to the 2016 Rental Affordability Analysis from RealtyTrac. In El Paso, Adams, Arapahoe and Pueblo counties, home payments are less of a burden than rent payments, while in Mesa County, it is a toss up, RealtyTrac found.RealtyTrac compared payments to own a three-bedroom home versus the average rent on that kind of property in 504 U.S. counties with more than 100,000 residents. With home price gains out- stripping both wage growth and rent increases, more counties, although still not a majority, are moving in favor of renting.
