Table Talk: ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’ viewing party at Spice Island Grill
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri recently buzzed around Colorado Springs in his red convertible, stopping at several popular eateries including Spice Island Grill, 10 N. Sierra Madre St., to film segments for his “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.” The Spice Island Grill episode airs at 8 p.m. Jan. 1 on Food Network. Not one to miss the opportunity to have fun, Claudette Hutchinson, who with her husband, Glenroy, owns the eatery, is throwing a viewing party at 7 p.m. A buffet dinner will be available for purchase.
“In typical Island-style we like to celebrate,” Hutchinson said on her Facebook invitation. “Join us as we view our debut on the Food Network channel. What a way to start off the New Year – Spice Island Grill and Guy! Live Band and DJ.” Details: 473-8280, spiceislandgrill.com.
Three other Springs eateries – Pig- latin Food Truck, Paravicini’s Italian Bistro and Mountain Shadows Restaurant – have already been featured.
Changing spaces
Motif Westside, 2432 W. Cucharras St., closed last weekend. It was with mixed emotions that the partnership between Heather and Andy Darrigan and Steve Draper came to an end.
“Steve and Andy and I had different ideas on how to move forward,” Heather said in an email. “Steve might reopen it at a different location, but we will not be going. This is really good news for us; we will be renovating the space and turning it into an event space.”
The plan is to have a grand opening in April. The Darrigans own The Food Designers catering company, which is located in the same building as Motif. Details: 632-5414, fooddesigners catering.com.
