Manitou’s SunWater Spa hosts a New Year’s Eve bash to remember

Give yourself the gift of a New Year’s Day sans crapulence – and a jump-start on healthy resolutions – by welcoming 2016 with an evening of wholesome indulgences including music, meditation and yoga, creativity workshops and mineral-water soaking.
“Why wait till January 1 to make a good change?” said Brian Kleiner, yoga and events manager at SunWater Spa, which opened in August in Manitou Springs. “With resolutions, I think the reason a lot of people end up falling on their faces is that they’re going to make all these changes, and they’re going to start tomorrow. Why start tomorrow when you could be starting this evening?”
The 6,000-square-foot, three-level wellness center will host an array of special events and activities during the celebration, starting off with yoga at 7 p.m., said Kleiner. The facility’s mineral water hot tubs also will be open to party attendees, so “there will be soaking,” he added.
The night’s not all about “oms” and tranquility, though. Beginning at 9 p.m., there will be live music by local indie folk musicians Curtis Boucher and Chuck Dayhoff, African drumming by Emmanuel Nii Bortey Annang and the “gypsy-tango-cabaret” stylings of Ryan Flores and MoonHoney, whose set will feature a performance by dancer Adriana Jones.
“My aim was to fill it with as much inspiration as possible,” said Kleiner, who wanted to make sure the party had activities that would appeal to introverts as well as extroverts. “I like things that make me think, that stoke the other sides of my creativity. So, upstairs while all that (music and dancing) is going on I am going to be doing a short poetry- writing workshop and a theatrical improv workshop.”
Those not inclined to welcome the new year with “exuberant dancing” can say hello in a more intimate fashion, at a midnight meditation.
“Ideally, I’d love to create a new paradigm for how people welcome in the new year,” Kleiner said.
